Insurance deal boosts Central Railway project
Central Railway , the company proposing to build, finance and operate a railway running from Liverpool to the Lille area in northern France, has secured insurance cover for the parliamentary votes that would ultimately decide the project's future.
Central Railway's Chairman Andrew Gritten said:

"We are delighted that, through J&H Marsh & McLennan, insurance has been arranged to underwrite our proposals to take freight off Britain's congested roads and on to the railways. Any planning application that involves a political vote has an element of risk but this insurance deal reduces the risk of investing in Central Railway."

There is growing confidence in the project that has become apparent in an extensive consultation exercise across the country. Many local authorities have endorsed Central Railway's proposals, as have businesses, Unions and environmental groups.

Andrew Gritten added:

"We already have a lot of support amongst parliamentarians in all parties who are interested in the project for its environmental, infrastructure and regional benefits. We are extremely confident that the proposals will be approved by Parliament when we submit our formal application at the end of the year."
