Central Railway has developed an innovative scheme (described in the downloadable PDF) which is designed to protect the marketability of properties which are not directly affected by new railway construction but which could otherwise be affected by "blight" and made harder to sell.
The property protection scheme is currently suspended pending the revision of the route and will be reintroduced as soon as appropriate.
In principle the scheme is applicable to the owner-occupied properties which adjoin sections of the route where Central Railway proposes to build new railway or to re-instate dismantled or disused railways. It can also be applied where properties are alongside a railway to which the company proposes to add one or two tracks, as well as to the very few properties which would have to be demolished. It is not in general expected to apply to properties adjoining existing operating railways.
